Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

If you’re a person who loves to go camping or hiking in places where you literally don’t get the usual conveniences of living, then it only means you should be carrying with you a survival gear all the time. So the only question left for us to answer is what should be inside your survival kit.

1 – Knife

The decision to go camping or hiking without bringing a knife with you as part of your outdoor survival gear is probably the stupidest one you’re going to make. A knife isn’t just for kitchen use; it in fact is an essential part of any survival gear. The foremost reason why you shouldn’t be going out there without it is because it does things that no other outdoor survival gear can. This includes cutting rope, opening cans, building a shelter, preparing food, and cutting cloth and bandages.

2 – Cordage

Any DIY survival gear needs rope, without a doubt. As a matter of fact, it’s almost impossible to survive out there in the wilderness if you don’t have a rope with you. The rope plays a very important role in a survival situation as it is used for so many different purposes, including that of building emergency shelters, fixing things, lashing poles, making animal traps, fishing, climbing, and making splints for injuries.

3 – Water Container

This one right here needs no explanation. One of the most important things you should know about survival is that an average person is able to last for several days without food as long as there is access to drinking water. Therefore, the failure to bring any kind of hydration system or water storage will decrease your chances of surviving out there. Bear in mind that not all water you see outdoors is feasible for drinking.

4 – Signaling Equipment

Once you find yourself in a survival situation after camping and there seems to be no one else around, it means that one of your primary objectives is to look for ways to contact people. The thing is if you let several days pass without doing something to make contact, your chances of being rescued will be decreased significantly. So as to be sure you have some aid in terms of establishing contact when you’re in a survival situation, always bring with you a signaling equipment. There are so many things you can bring with you like a whistle, flashlight, or any other thing that can produce light or sound of some kind. You just can forget bringing along a signaling equipment since it’s an essential tactical survival gear.

The fact is there still are so many things you should be bringing with you if you go out camping or hiking and we leave the responsibility of learning the rest to you.
